Friday Rainy Day Activity - Rice Sensory Box

What to do on a rainy day?  Well, I made my first sensory box.  I took a small shallow bin and filled it with 5 small bags of rice from Walmart.  Then I threw in some cups and measuring cups and there you go, hours of fun.  Seriously, I am not even kidding.  My kids have been playing with this for hours.  My 5 year old likes to bury his Lego men in it and pretend it is the snow scene from Star Wars and my 2 year old daughter likes to use it build mountains or sand castles as she calls them:)

Quick, cheap and easy.  Next I want to make a bean box but I am too lazy to go out today to get the beans! lol

Emmy Red Carpet - Fashion Commentary & Tips from Jeannie Mai.

Jeannie Mai, host of the Style Network’s “How Do I Look?”, Yoplait Light spokesperson and correspondent for NBC's upcoming series "Fashion Star" gives you her take on the best looks from this year’s Emmy red carpet.  The fashion guru has also teamed up with Yoplait Light to show women how simple swaps – from fashion to food – can really make a difference in how you look and feel, and offers more swapping advice at www.Facebook.com/Yoplait.

·         Easy ways for anyone to get red carpet ready
o   Glam can be anything from a bold lip, a colored eyeliner, a statement necklace, or a dress that's long and flowy. When in doubt, swap it out. If you feel the need to step up your style even more for a spotlight, do so by swapping in any of the above, and don't forget shimmery skin always does the trick.  Check out www.Facebook.com/Yoplait for more swapping tips!
·         Best Dressed
o   Kelly Osbourne: There’s a new Sheriff of the Fashion Police. And it’s Kelly Osbourne in this dress.
o   Maria Bello-Hello, Maria Bello! She sparkled like the sun in her gown, showing us how to lead with beads.
o   Sophia Vegara:  What a body hottie! She did her thang in Vera Wang. This Colombian knows how to smuggle those curves into the country.
o   Nina Dobrev: Instead of Emmys they should be handing out Nina Dobrevs in this dress. Her body was obviously poured into that Donna Karan creation.
·         Best hair
o   Nina Dobrev took a stunning gown and made it unbelievable with her hair, swooping it to one side to showcase her clavicle. No wonder she has so many vampires after her.
·         Best makeup:
o   Kate Winslet wrote the bible to best makeup in a ravishing red gown. All too often women feel the need to take the red from the look to the lips. Here she glows with pearlescent skin, flawless lined eyes, and a marigold nude lip.
·         Best accessories
o   Rachel Harris rocked one of my favorite accessories, glasses. They’re an everyday stable but somehow on the red carpet it gives you that touch of edge.
o   Jane Lynch taught us a lesson on accessories. Where you’re going with a basic strapless dress, you need to finish it off with a statement necklace. I felt cheated by her bare neckline.
·         Best use of color:
o   Colbie Smulders showed us the light with her coral Alberta Ferretti & Neil Lane gown. She stood out in this evening’s red sea with a perfect shade of blue.
o   Alan Cumming gave us something different to look at. He showed that men can stand out on the red carpet as well by pairing a tradition top with some orange Jean Paul Gaultier pants. Nobody looked cooler.

HELP SAVE TACKAPAUSHA MUSEUM!!!!

Nassau County is planning on closing down some museums.  This is just a disgrace!!!  How can a museum be closed.  Tackapausha Museum is on that list.  Please spread the word and fight to save this museum and all others set to close.  Tackapausha just finished a HUGE renovation and uses volunteers.  They are all set to open for the Fall Festival but who knows now.  I have been going there since I was little and have so many great memories there and brought my son there when he was little before they closed for renovations.  I was so excited to be able to bring my daughter there too.

Mentalist, Michael Lee will be performing at Tackapausha from Oct 28 - Dec 11.  Call up and order your tickets to show Nassau County that we will not stand for this!!!

This is what the Wantagh Patch reported.  Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano announced Wednesday that as a part of his “Fix Nassau Now” budget for 2012, the county will be looking to close county-operated museums that do not generate revenue. When pressed for specifics, Mangano admitted that the Tackapausha Museum could be among the first to go.

Call your local officials and/or email Ed Mangano, County Executive http://www.nassaucountyny.gov/agencies/CountyExecutive/index.html.

A 9-11 Prayer - Pope Benedict XVI's Visit to Ground Zero

A 9-11 Prayer
From Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Ground Zero on April 20, 2008:
O God of love, compassion, and healing, look on us, people of many different faiths and traditions, who gather today at this site, the scene of incredible violence and pain. We ask you in your goodness to give eternal light and peace to all who died here— the heroic first-responders: our fire fighters, police officers, emergency service workers, and Port Authority personnel, along with all the innocent men and women who were victims of this tragedy simply because their work or service brought them here on September 11, 2001.

We ask you, in your compassion to bring healing to those who, because of their presence here that day, suffer from injuries and illness. Heal, too, the pain of still-grieving families and all who lost loved ones in this tragedy. Give them strength to continue their lives with courage and hope.

We are mindful as well of those who suffered death, injury, and loss on the same day at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Our hearts are one with theirs as our prayer embraces their pain and suffering.

God of peace, bring your peace to our violent world: peace in the hearts of all men and women and peace among the nations of the earth. Turn to your way of love those whose hearts and minds are consumed with hatred. God of understanding, overwhelmed by the magnitude of this tragedy, we seek your light and guidance as we confront such terrible events. Grant that those whose lives were spared may live so that the lives lost here may not have been lost in vain.

Comfort and console us, strengthen us in hope, and give us the wisdom and courage to work tirelessly for a world where true peace and love reign among nations and in the hearts of all.
